Jobs at JAG: Staff Spotlight on Hal

At Junior Adventures Group, our focus is nurturing the potential of children in our care across Australia. We also believe in making a lasting positive impact in the communities where we live and work.

We couldn’t do this without our incredible staff, like our amazing Coordinators. In this Staff Spotlight, we spoke with Primary OSHCare Coordinator, Hal Dotson in NSW. With several years of experience working in outside school hours care, we asked Hal why he loves working in the industry and what makes the Coordinator role in our services so special.

What made you join Primary OSHCare?

Having the opportunity to witness the growth and development of the kids. There’s immense satisfaction in observing their progression from kindergarten to year 6, especially when you’ve been there for their entire journey.

What is one of your favourite memories working at Primary OSHC so far?

One standout memory for me is The Fun Run, a large fundraising event that Primary OSHCare sponsors. It’s an occasion where a lot of POSH services come together, and you can see kids from different schools interacting with one another which is always fun. (Staff too!) It’s also really great to see the funds raised benefiting schools, contributing towards essential supplies and improvements.

What is one thing that you have learnt about yourself since working at Primary OSHCare?

I’ve come to realise that I possess a significant amount of patience. I’m also someone who embraces a go-with-the-flow attitude, understanding that certain circumstances are beyond our control. I think these traits really elevate my capacity to effectively tackle the challenges that can come with my role as a Coordinator at Primary OSHCare.

Tell us about your career progression and history working at Primary OSHCare.

I’ve had a huge amount of growth in terms of leadership and development from when I started my journey at Primary OSHCare. Starting as an Assistant Coordinator, I got to shadow my Coordinator at the time who showed me how to manage a team, parents, and children. This experience eventually paved the way for my promotion to a Coordinator role, where I now run my own centre.  I’m also able to extend support to other centres, lending a hand wherever needed.

If you were to have a superpower, what would it be?

The ability to create powers. If anyone feels like they’ve missed out, they can get their own superpower – that way we could level the playing field for everyone!
