Gladstone ‘Family Fun Day’ champions child safety and community connection
A vibrant day of connection and celebration
What an inspiring weekend in Gladstone! As part of Queensland Child Protection Week, JAG proudly hosted a Family Fun Day at the Philip Street Community Precinct, bringing together families, educators, local leaders and community services.
Our teams were on the ground supporting activities, engaging with families and visiting local schools. The event featured creative activity stations, nature and sensory play zones, live music, giveaways and stalls from local services. The entire Precinct was alive with energy: bubbles floated through the air, children’s faces lit up with paint and laughter, and families gathered for make-and-take activities, a silent disco, and more.
It was a true showcase of what happens when a community gathers together to put children’s safety and wellbeing at the centre.
“It was special to see the Gladstone community come together with such strong focus on child safety and wellbeing. The Family Fun Day showed the power of local services, families, and leaders working side by side. I’m so proud of the effort from our team and grateful to everyone who played a part in making it such a positive day.” – Daryan Dixon, Regional Manager, JAG Gladstone and Rockhampton.

Community support and leadership
We were honoured to have local government representatives join us, including Glenn Churchill, Gladstone Councillor, and Stephen Bennett, Member for Burnett and former Shadow Minister for Child Safety. Queensland Child Protection Week is also now recognised as a major event by Amanda Camm, Minister for Child Safety.
Melinda Crole, JAG CEO, also joined the event and spoke with local community radio station 91.9 Fresh FM to share our message about child safety -not just as a policy, but as a promise we live every day.
A shared commitment to children’s wellbeing
“Our goal is to ensure every child feels safe, supported, and empowered. By working together as a community, we can strengthen our safeguarding practices and put children’s safety where it belongs - at the very centre of everything we do.” – Kate Cross, General Manager, JAG QLD
We’re proud to invest in the communities we serve, working alongside government and local partners to create safe, inclusive environments for all children.
As we continue to navigate sector changes and reforms, events like this remind us why we do what we do, and how powerful it is when community comes together to support children’s wellbeing.
